Advanced Leadership & Management
The course is designed for Chief Stewardesses and Heads of Interior Departments, as well as those in senior onboard positions, who are responsible for leading individuals and department teams.
The Advanced Leadership Module focuses on addressing the challenges of the Head of Department (HoD) role. It enhances participants' knowledge and skills in motivating individuals and teams, effective communication, implementing performance management on board, applying resource management principles, and handling conflict situations through coaching and mentoring.
Throughout the course, we will work on case study scenarios based on real-work situations you may encounter onboard. We will discuss how to improve communication and overall team performance while fostering a positive job environment for your team on board.
Duration: 3 intensive afternoon sessions starting at 14:30pm
plus one-to-one sessions to work on assignments.

Communication Styles
- Understanding different communication styles and how to adapt them to various situations and individuals.
Emotional Intelligence
- The role of emotional intelligence in effective communication and leadership.
Conflict Management & Resolution
- Techniques for managing and resolving conflicts constructively on board.
Constructive Feedback & Communication
- Providing effective and constructive feedback to enhance team performance and motivation.
Mentor Role Principles of Guidance
- Understanding the responsibilities and principles of being a mentor onboard.
Differences Between Mentoring, Management, and Coaching
- Clarifying the distinctions between mentoring, managing, and coaching, and when to apply each.
Key Components of an Effective Mentoring
- Essential elements for creating impactful and successful mentoring relationships.
Mentoring Theories/Models Application
- Applying mentoring theories and models in real-life scenarios on board.
Bullying and Harassment Prevention & Interventions
- Strategies for preventing bullying and harassment, and effective interventions when issues arise
Foundation Leadership and the Unit 22 Advanced leadership qualifications which are equivalent to HELM O and HELM M, are recognised by PYA for the CoC of Chief Stewardess
