ROC - Restricted Operations Certificate
The GMDSS ROC training combines classroom teaching with different practical sessions to consolidate the skills and procedures taught in order to achieve the required standard.
A mixture of live and simulated equipment is used to give candidates the maximum time and opportunity to become familiar with the necessary equipment.
We will cover the SOLAS procedures & the practical operation of Marine VHF Radio, VHF DSC controller, Navtex receiver, Portable survival equipment, Distress communications and log keeping, general radio regulations & battery maintenance.
Schedule: 3 days
Location: Venue, Crownhill Fort Plymouth
Exams are taken in the afternoon on day 3
- 18 years old and over
- English fluent
- Knowledge of the phonetic alphabet and some experience using a computer keyboard is also useful.
The GMDSS is assessed by an external AMERC examiner. There are 3 components to the exam:
- Radio Communication and Log keeping (Practical and Written)
- Solas Procedures and Radio Regulations (Written)
- Operational Performance (Practical)
